English Coach, Anchorstar English (Tokyo, Japan)
Work With Us.
We are a small team in Tokyo. If you would like to know more about what we do, our For Partners page has the full story.
This page is about a coaching role within Anchorstar English, our communication training program for Japanese professionals.
What Anchorstar English is.
Anchorstar English is not a typical English school.
AI can now handle much of what traditional language education used to do — translation, grammar correction, vocabulary. What AI cannot do is help someone figure out who they are and how to say it in their own voice. That is what we focus on.
We work with professionals at Japanese companies, helping them learn to express themselves — their stories, their values, their ideas — in English. We combine AI tools with one-on-one coaching. The goal is not perfect English. The goal is honest, clear communication that builds trust across cultures.
What the work actually looks like.
You will work one-on-one with students at their offices in Tokyo, three days a week. Each day is spent at client sites. The other days, you work with the coaching team — developing lessons, sharing what you learned from sessions, and helping improve the program together.
Some students are beginners who are nervous about speaking at all. Some are experienced professionals who want to tell their story more clearly to international partners. Every student is different, and every lesson needs to respond to that.
You will also use AI tools like ChatGPT and Notion as part of your teaching. If you have not used these tools before, that is okay — but you should be willing to learn.
What we are looking for.
Someone who is a good teacher and a good listener. Someone who can make a nervous student feel comfortable in the first five minutes. Someone who cares about the details — of language, of culture, of how people actually communicate.
A few things that matter to us:
You have experience teaching Business English — at least a few years. You have taught beginners and advanced students. You have some understanding of how business works, ideally from having worked in a corporate environment yourself at some point. You are organized, reliable, and you show up prepared.
And honestly — this role requires patience and humility. You are going to a student's workplace, becoming part of their week. That is a privilege, and we want someone who sees it that way.
A few practical things.
